Teaching Is An Art Or Science - 854 Words

The purpose of education is to further one s knowledge by building off the knowledge that they already have. But teaching those said students to further their knowledge is not always as plain and simple as it seems. When the question comes up as to if teaching is an art or a science, I would argue that teaching is both an art and a science. As Snowman and McCown stated, while research shows us what has worked under certain conditions, does not mean that it will work when used in other conditions because they vary from school to school and class to class, as well as, change over time (Snowman McCown, 2015, p. 15). This is represented in my model by the words â€Å"science†, â€Å"art† and â€Å"teaching†. I choose those words because I strongly believe that teaching is the basis of a student furthering their knowledge. I also choose art and science because I believe that when those two point of view work together a student’s learning will be most successf ul. The role of the teacher is to be help the students become a self-regulated learner, which means â€Å"thoughts, feelings, and action purposely generated and controlled to maximize a learning outcome† (Snowman McCown, 2015, p. 306). I feel as if this is a very important thing because a student’s get older they are expected to become a more independent learners.
